FAQ

SCVA Mission:

To provide an equitable, innovative, and flexible education driven by compassion and a commitment to student success.

SCVA Vision:

To cultivate a flexible and supportive learning environment that empowers students to succeed in a dynamic world today and in the future.

What is SCVA?

The St. Croix Virtual Academy offers an opportunity for students across the state of Wisconsin, but especially for those residing in the St. Croix Valley who are looking for an alternative to the traditional brick and mortar school. It is a public, tuition-free school within the St. Croix Central School District. The focus of the program is the needs of individual students who may need or desire an alternative approach to their education.

SCVA recognizes the importance of offering opportunities to parents/guardians and students that take advantage of progressive methods in the delivery of instruction.

Flexible Education

Students in grades 4K-5 have weekly lessons set up by their teachers and shared with parents.  Students in grades 6-12 will follow due dates in their grade books.  All due dates are to keep students on track and students are not penalized for turning in work after a due date, but they may receive a low progress report if they are not keeping up.

Is there a place my student can go to receive extra help?

Yes, we have Virtual Classroom space for students in grades 8-12.  The space is located in our Virtual Academy addition at the St. Croix Central High School in Hammond.  The classroom is open from 8-2 on district school days and is staffed with one or two full-time online teachers who will help your child with their courses or just provide a space for them to work.

Do you offer activities where students can interact with other students?

Yes, students in grades 6-8 are able to participate in athletics and other clubs/activities offered through our local middle school.  In grades 9-12, students may participate in clubs/activities offered through the high school, but not athletics.  We also have monthly events where 4K-12th grade students are able to meet other students and staff members.

A synchronized approach to education.

You are NOT alone! As your student's Learning Coach, you’ll be by their side, partnering with our teachers and staff to help your child become the person you know they can be.   SCVA has licensed teachers who are dedicated to helping all students succeed—that means a Learning Coach serves as a guide, supporter, and motivator to further stimulate learning and establish a suitable structure for the school day at home.
