How It Works

Online Learning

We offer online instruction where lessons are scheduled and delivered in the program. SCVA teachers answer questions, provide support, and grade all work. The school operates on semester schedules and credits are earned each semester.

Students will watch pre-recorded lessons, complete projects and assignments, and take assessments. Some students will be required to obtain a novel(s) for their English/Language Arts class.  There are no live classes or sessions, but students are encouraged to meet individually with their teachers when it works for them!

SCVA provides all students with opportunities for socialization:

  • Each student is encouraged to meet with their teachers as needed to ask questions, get help with assignments, and to form a meaningful connection.

  • SCVA also offers optional monthly field trips to places in Western Wisconsin.

ACT Testing

In the spring of the school year, 9th-11th grade SCVA students are expected to complete a standardized state test. The results of these assessments help guide the school district in making decisions that allow us to provide the best educational learning experience for each student. ACT is the state required assessment for all 11th grade students.  The ACT helps determine scholarship and financial aid packages for students.  Pre-ACT Secure is the state required assessment for all 9th & 10th grade students. This assessment will help prepare your student for the ACT. All tests are offered on-site and at an off-site testing location each year.

Daily Responsibilities

At a minimum, it is expected that the following things are completed each day.

  • Check school email

  • Contact teachers if you are struggling with an assignment

  • Complete daily assignments for each course in which you are enrolled

**We encourage you to spend a minimum of 60 minutes - 90 minutes per day on each course.
